Colour and Positional Quantisation for Content-Based Image Retrieval

چکیده
Colour-based retrieval is one of the major content-based retrieval techniques. The main idea used for colour based retrieval techniques is to store the image in terms of a colour map which has a nite set of colour bins. An eecient retrieval scheme should preserve all the distinct colours of an image with a small number of colour bins. Uniform Quantisation is one of the major quantisation techniques used for content based retrieval. Uniform quantisation results in a very small number of attributes for the feature vector ; therefore, it allows the use of simpliied indexing structures. This makes the retrieval process very easy. One of the drawbacks of uniform quantisation is that it retrieves a large number of false positives. We propose an image retrieval technique based on uniform quantisation which has fewer false positives. The quantised images are stored in a reduced form and the positional information of the colour pixels is preserved and used in the retrieval process. We examine the eeciency of this method and compare it with the uniform quantisation method. The results show that the modiied technique performs better than uniform quantisation as it has a fewer number of false positives. This approach also reduces the space requirements for image indexing as we handle a smaller set of image pixels.

Colour image retrieval based on DCT-domain vector quantisation index histograms
A new kind of feature for colour image retrieval based on DCT-domain vector quantisation (VQ) index histograms (DCTVQIH) is proposed. For each colour image in the database, 12 histograms (four for each colour component) are calculated from 12 DCT-VQ index sequences, respectively. The retrieval simulation results show that, compared with the traditional spatial-domain colour-histogram-based feat...
متن کاملMidstream content access based on color visual pattern coding
It has been argued that future image coding techniques should allow for "midstream access", i.e. allow image query, retrieval, and modification to proceed on the compressed representation [18]. In a recent work [1], we introduced the colour visual pattern image coding (CVPIC) technique for colour image compression. An image is divided into blocks and each block coded locally by mapping it to on...
متن کاملColour Image Coding by Visually Meaningful Image Patterns
Visually meaningful patterns (visual patterns) are a set of predefined image blocks representing information the human visual system is very sensitive to. A colour image coding technique based on visual patterns is introduced. An image is divided into small blocks each of which is mapped to one of the visual patterns. Each block can then be represented by the pattern and by the colour informati...

We propose a new global localisation approach to determine a coarse position of a mobile robot in structured indoor space using colour-based image retrieval techniques. We use an original method of colour quantisation based on the baker’s transformation to extract a two-dimensional colour pallet combining as well space and vicinity-related information as colourimetric aspect of the original ima...
متن کاملImage indexing using a colored pattern appearance model
We introduce a new method for colour image indexing and content-based image retrieval. An image is divided into small sub-images and the visual appearance of which is characterised by a coloured pattern appearance model. The statistics of the local visual appearance of the image are then computed as measures of the global visual appearance of the image. The visual appearance of the small sub-im...
